Here are some bonus pictures from the final around of this year’s Miss Magazine gravure idol contest (ミスマガジン美少女コンテスト). Once again the event took place at the Sunshine City fountain plaza (サンシャイン噴水広場) in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district. The grand prize went to 15 year old Nanami Sakuraba (桜庭ななみ) from Kagoshima Precture, but basically everyone walked away a winner, as making it to the final will help the girls greatly in Japanese showbiz further on down the road.

Nagano Prefecture native Miki Nakagawa received the “Miss Young Magazine” award (essentially runner-up) at last weekend’s Miss Magazine 2008 (ミスマガジン) contest held at Sunshine City shopping mall in popular Ikebukuro district of Tokyo. The 19 year old with amazing looking tits was all smiles.

This past Sunday the final round selection for the winner of Miss Magazine (ミスマガジン) 2008 gravure idol was held at Sunshine City (サンシャインシティ) shopping mall in Ikebukuro district of downtown Tokyo. And 15 year old Nanami Sakuraba (桜庭ななみ) from Kagoshima Prefecture at the southern tip of Japan was crowned as the winner! It seems like idols in Japan are getting younger every year yet they’re fully embraced by the society. Hey, who am I to complain!

Winning the coveted Miss Magazine gravure idol title is a huge deal, as it is seen as a sure-thing stepping stone for the Japanese teen to enter into some other opportunities in showbiz. Running since 1982, past Miss Magazine winners have been Hollywood actress Youki Saito (斉藤由貴) and OG Japanese idol later turned actress Yoko Minamino (南野陽子). More recent winner / entrant include super popular gravure idol Misako Yasuda (安田美沙子), Kii Kitano (北乃きい) and everyone’s favorite cutie pie otaku Shoko Nakagawa (中川翔子) aka “Shokotan”! As a matter of fact, the gravure idol contest received about 17,000 entries this year.

After being announced as the winner, the baby faced Nanami Sakuraba said, “I still can’t believe I’ve won. I will work hard with lots of smile and courage!” Nanami belongs to the same entertainment production agency “Sweet Power” (スウィートパワー) as the red hot U-19 Japanese teen idol Kii Kitano. Nanami has set her sight on catching up to the beautiful Kii because “she’s got really good acting skills”.

Popular Japanese idol group AKB48 member Mariko Shinoda (篠田麻里子) released her first photobook titled “Pendulum” yesterday. At the press conference this past Sunday the slender 22 year old from Fukuoka Prefecture in southern Japan said, “It’s kind of embarrassing to see myself appearing everywhere but I’m happy.”

Just when you thought the singing career of Eurasian gravure idol Leah Dizon ( リア・ディゾン) aka “The Blackship of Gravure” was a fluke, she’s back on Japan’s Oricon chart with her latest single “Vanilla”. It was just announced this past Friday that the song will be included in her upcoming 2nd album titled “Communication!!!” due to be released on August 20th.

This time around Leah didn’t just pen the lyrics herself, she’s also taken up the task of song writing. The super hot bikini model famous for her provocative poses says, “I think in order to express what I really feel, I need to be involved with every aspect. I face some language barrier so this is a good way for me to get my point across.”

The film will be shown in Hong Kong this fall and be in theaters in Japan next April.

Ai Kago has also began filming a historic suspense drama with NTV (Nippon TV) in the ancient capitol of Kyoto since returning to Japan.  She plays a princess and from the leaked press photos I’ve seen she looked absolutely adorable!  Upon her return she was asked about the rumor of her and former Morning Musume member Maki Goto (current AVEX artist) forming a new unit.  Aibon responded that it was also the first time for her to hear such speculation but she’d welcome it.

I guess there were a few last minute issues that caused the delay, but just as reported in my post back in March (which drew some heated debate) Maki Goto has switched camp to AVEX Nation! After the long speculation, it was officially announced this past Friday that former Japanese idol and Morning Musume third generation member has signed with Japanese record giant AVEX. The sexy 22 year old Maki, source of masturbation fantasy for countless men will indeed debut under AVEX’s label “Rhythm Zone”, which mega J-pop artists such as Kumi Koda and EXILE also belong to.

According to the media relations department at AVEX, it’ll be the 10 year anniversary since Maki Goto’s showbiz debut and some drastic changes may be in the work. However, they cannot confirm any future activities since they’re still in the planning stages and Maki is considering her options.

More photos of the new Japanese lip singing idol unit “Peachy’s”. 3 popular gravure idols - Yuka Kosaka, Akina Minami and Rina Akiyama have come together to form this unique “no singing” group, a first in J-pop history.

The idea for Peachy’s came from Fuji TV’s Monday late night variety show “Jodeki! Pop Company Pop-ya” (～ジョーデキ！POP COMPANY～ POP屋)

The three cute Japanese pin-up girls were keeping it real, though. Rina Akiyama aka “Oshirina” (オシリーナ) whose claim to fame is her petite yet beautifully shaped ass said, “When I heard my own voice I thought, ‘Oh, this is bad.’!” The sexy Japanese gravure doll Yuka Kosaka aka “Kosakana” (コサカーナ) laughed, “We tried practicing but it was pretty disappointing. It’d be nice if one of us has a nice voice.” The cheerful Akina Minami aka “Akkina” (アッキーナ) added, “I don’t care, I like our group this way. We’d like to start a new lip singing craze!”

Peachy’s had their second mini “live” concert in Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City (池袋サンシャインシティ) at the end of last month. The girls were pretty nervous but showed off their lip synching (口パク) skills in front of about 2000 fans. Yuka, Akina and Rina finished the performance with their upcoming single “My Baby Boy” which is scheduled to drop on August 6th.
