Japanese music and pop culture ranking authority Oricon (オリコン) released another top 10 list for the summer.  This time they asked both Japanese men and women what female celebrity they’d most like to see in a swimsuit.  Below is the result:

No. 1 – Aki Hoshino (ほしのあき)

The queen bee and most senior Japanese gravure idol continues to reign!  Comments from the survey included, “She’s got such an awesome body” and “When it comes to swimsuit I can only think about Aki Hoshino!”

No. 2 – Akina Minami (南明奈)

Akina was orginally scouted while shopping with her mom in the Harajuku district of Tokyo when she was in the 6th grade.  She brought up comments like, “She’s slender and has a nice body shape” and “Her bright image goes well with summer.”

No. 3 – Yuri Ebihara (蛯原友里)

Who’s a better supermodel than Ebi-chan to represent in a bikini?  Yuri has the body and Shiseido knows it, as she’s been the spokesperson for their ANESSA line of sun block lotion for quite a few years.  People said, “She’s got the perfect style as a model” and “She’s both sexy and refreshing to look at.”

The 21 year old fashion model and talent got her showbiz career started when she was chosen to be an image spokesperson for Japanese swimwear maker San’ai (三愛).  From there she began modeling for fashion magazine PINKY as well.  Yukina auditioned for Morning Musume in 2001 but didn’t make the cut.

No. 5 – Miwa Asao (浅尾美和)

The 23 year old professional beach volleyball player has taken Japanese media by storm for the last couple of years.  Miwa comes from Mie Prefecture and thanks to her fame has started doing fashion shoots and gravure modeling. 

No. 6 – Ayumi Hamasaki (浜崎あゆみ)

This Japanese diva needs no introduction and is internationally known, but many people don’t know that she first started out as a gravure idol.  You can see Ayumi’s face just about everywhere you go in Japan.  The AVEX recording artist has won numerous awards and performed in every Kohaku Utagassen year end show since 1999!

No. 7 – Masami Nagasawa (長澤まさみ)

The Shizuoka Prefecture native got her foot in the showbiz door when she became the youngest winner in the history of Toei Cinderella Audition at age 12 back in ‘99.  Masami has a charming girl next door smile and a set of F cup breasts.

News came out yesterday that Japanese fashion model / DJ / talent IMALU, daughter of veteran Japanese comedian and host Sanma Akashiya (who is a household name in Japan) is dating the lead vocal of Japanese punk rock band 175R.  According to Sports Nichi IMALU (real name Imaru Otake) who has just returned from studying abroad in Canada met SHOGO who is 10 years her senior through music channel.  She has reportedly even introduced her wild child boyfriend to her mother, famous Japanese actress Shinobu Otake.

By the way, 175R is pronounced “Inago Rider”…don’t ask me why.

The Tokyo native officially began her showbiz career back in April, debuting as the shortest model ever at 150cm (4′11″) for Japanese fashion magazine Zipper.  She has also since taken on the role of assistant DJ at FM Yokohama as well as appearing on variety shows.

SHOGO is no stranger to Japanese tabloid news.  He was the talk of town in 2004 when he suddenly married J-pop unit SPEED member Eriko Imai due to pregnancy and later ended their marriage in 2007.  He has since been romantically linked to Japanese gravure idol Yuka Kosaka.

Possibly sensing that she has made some rookie mistake by being too careless, the 19 year old Japanese teen fashion model immediately posted on her blog to deny this supposed romance.  IMALU wrote, “I’m surprised.  I haven’t been out that long and already I’ve made tabloid headlines.  I’ll work hard to have them write about my work next time.  SHOGO is one of the music industry elders whom I’m friends with!”  When Oricon contacted IMALU’s agency it was told that they are good friends but not a couple.  SHOGO’s handler also gave a similar statement saying, “He’s an adult so we leave all private matters up to him.  We don’t know anything.”

However, when asked what kind of guy she’s attracted to at a movie press event last month, IMALU answered, “Someone who’s cute and older than me.”  I’m sure she’s not talking about her father.

Some Japanese weeklies had already been running stories of Japanese gravure idol / fashion model turned talent Yukina Kinoshita being romantically involved with Japanese comedian Toshifumi Fujimoto.  On the 7th of last month on a regional variety show airing on Kansai TV the 38 year old half of the Japanese comdey duo FUJIWARA finally fessed up and blurted out, “Yeah, we’re going out!”

During one segment of the show which focused on its guests, the title read, “There are so many rumors involving FUJIWARA.”  After being heckled by both fellow panelists and audience, the Osaka native had no choice but say, “Oh, you’re referring to that?  We’re dating.”  After the show recording was completed Toshifumi felt a little disappointed as he said, “I wanted to announce this on a nationally televised show.”

Yukina and Toshifumi met when they both appeared as regular guests on a popular Fuji TV quiz show Quiz! Hexagon II (クイズ!ヘキサゴンII).  I take it the sexy and leggy Tokyo native likes having her funny bone tickled.

The couple’s mutual friend Hello!Project idol turned talent Mai Satoda (里田まい) made things even more difficult for the Japanese funny man by calling into the show during recording and revealing more detailed info.  Mai told the show, “They went to Disney Sea recently!”  When asked for the identity of the female companion Mai playfully replied, “She’s full of energy and a good girl!”

Japanese gravure idol and talent Misako Yasuda (安田美沙子) has recently been implicated by a Japanese weekly that she has cheated on her boyfriend by spending the night at another guy’s house.  To clear her name, the 27 year old Kyoto Prefecture native wrote in her blog this past Monday that this was all false.

In the blog titled “The Truth”, Misako explained that the person she was with is a good friend of hers and they’ve known each other since 7 years ago.  However, the sexy Japanese pin-up was contrite by saying she shouldn’t have done such a careless act and she really regrets it.  “I acted hastily and ended up being misunderstood.  I’m sorry.”

This past January the sexy Japanese gravure veteran revealed also on her blog that she was dating Japanese actor Yu Shirota (城田優), 4 years her junior and that everything’s going well.

In Misako’s explanation she added that this “good friend” of hers understands a girl’s feelings and he’s always helped her in times of need, so she really trusts him.  “I plan on having lots of contact with him in the future.  I’ll always keep watch over him.  He’s a dear friend.”, wrote Misako.

I’m not sure what the Japanese media or her fans will make of this.  But if I were her boyfriend, somehow I can’t help but feel a bit uneasy about this “platonic” relationship.

Internationally known Japanese gravure idol / talent / singer / manga artist Shoko Nakagawa (中川翔子) aka “Shokotan” released her latest photobook titled “Shoko A La Mode” last Friday. This time the multi talented 23 year old transforms herself into several different characters in the photobook, which is very fitting for her cosplay loving personality.

It has been announced that Japanese gravure idol and “talent” (a catch-all name for entertainer in Japan) Chinatsu Wakatsuki (若槻千夏) is making her offcial comeback to Japanese showbiz. The free spirit and often rambunctious 24 year old will have her first TV appearance next Wednesday night since dropping out of the spotlight 10 months ago on “Domoto Tsuyoshi no Shojiki Shindoi” (堂本剛の正直 しんどい) on TV Asahi.

Chinatsu Wakatsuki was scouted while shopping with friends at Shibuya 109, arguably the center of Japanese fashion and trend when she was 17. At the young age of 18 she was selected as one of the semi finalists for the prestigious 2002 Miss Magazine (ミスマガジン) gravure contest and her showbiz career just took off from there. However, since 2006 the Saitama Prefecture (just north of Tokyo) native began to suffer from health problems often, most likely due to stress. In November of last year she disappeared from Japanese TV screen altogether and later announced on her popular blog that although she wasn’t retiring she intended to go on hiatus to explore other channels and challenge herself.

After leaving showbiz at the end of last year Chinatsu Wakatsuki focused on vintage clothing and fashion designs. Here she is showing off her clothing line, all designed by the popular variety idol or “baradoru” (バラドル). Chinatsu told reporters that since she hasn’t gone into a recording studio for a while, coming on “Domoto Tsuyoshi no Shojiki Shindoi” was scary for her. She couldn’t hide the fact that she has a 10 months blank period on her showbiz resume. Chinatsu has also since launched a new blog at the end of August to mark her re-entry into showbiz.

The slender and tanned Chinatsu Wakatsuki has a rather inferior complex about her small B cup chest and gets sensitive when people talk about big boobs or other big tittie gravure idols in front of her. Personally I think that’s part of the reason which contributed to her stress but she needs to realize she is a gravure idol and she is in the business of showing off skin.

The film will be shown in Hong Kong this fall and be in theaters in Japan next April.
